Gesha Village Honey Gesha

We bought this coffee immediately after the harvest in Ethiopia and stored it in our freezer upon arrival at the roastery. That freshness is evident in the cup, which bursts with blossom aromatics and combines a lovely honey-like texture with soft fruit sweetness.

Gesha Village is a breathtaking coffee estate spanning nearly 500 hectares of dense forest in Ethiopia's West Omo zone. The farm was established to showcase Gesha in its original terroir, returning the varietal that gained worldwide recognition in Panama to its ancestral home.

Due to its scale, the estate is divided into eight sections to improve traceability. This coffee comes from the Oma section, which is dedicated to Gesha 1931 and named after a religious leader of the indigenous Menit people. Cherries from each section are tracked separately throughout processing, allowing the farm to highlight the unique character of the area.

All Gesha varieties grown at Gesha Village originate from seeds collected in 2011 from the nearby Gori Gesha Forest, located around 12 miles from the farm. During their research, the team identified two distinct genetic groups. The first, Gesha 1931, was named for its close resemblance to the Gesha seeds collected and eventually transported to Panama in the 1930s. The second, Gori Gesha, represents the broader genetic diversity naturally found within the Gori Gesha Forest.
