Gatomboya Washed
A juicy Kenyan profile offering berry-like aromatics and bright acidity.
Kenyan coffee has traditionally been grown for export, with many locals drinking little of their own lots. The Barichu Farmers Cooperative Society, which operates Gatomboya washing station in Nyeri, wanted to change this. In 2013, members funded the construction of Barichu Coffee House in nearby Karatina, creating a place to serve their own coffee and encourage local consumption. Roasting and selling coffee locally provides another source of income for the cooperative, while giving growers a closer connection to the product they spend the year cultivating.
