Based in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania, the Mambo cooperative union was formed in 2011 by the visionary Athanasio Massenha. Seeing a growth in demand for specialty coffee, but not seeing the profits returning to producers, the organisation was established to provide a proper income for local farmers.
With fluctuating markets and many of the younger generations leaving for other pastures, the co-ops are more important than ever, providing a network of support and education with agronomists employed to provide advice on soil management and crop production across the region.
The washed Bourbon and Kent varieties provide a deep balanced cup, with notes of prune, chocolate and almond.
