A Costa Rican Catuai natural with a surprisingly vibrant juicy character.
Formed from a social enterprise connecting volunteers from around the world to sustainably-minded farmers, Green Communities allows producers to invite workers to visit Costa Rica and help in converting their farms to organic, hugely helping this labour-intensive project. After decades of traditional coffee production this move is in response to concerns over climate-change, with a view to preserving the land for future generations.
The organisation began in 2003, with a vision to put lesser known regions on the map for rural eco-tourism. This started in Los Santos, known for its green, cloud forested mountains, cool climate and coffee production. Green Communities was born from this first organisation in 2009 and now partners with educational institutions and volunteer projects around the globe.
