Part of the Akawa project aimed at more stable supply chains in Burundi, the cherries from this lot have met strict quality controls at drop-off. The producers are paid up-front for their crops, something uncommon for the origin, and premiums on all coffee sold are used to train farmers in better management practices.

The Bourbon crops cultivated here enjoy the rich volcanic soils, optimum conditions for the plant, and with the station servicing 833 farmers from the surrounding area it has become a true resource-hub for the region.
